Creative, innovative and out-of-the-box
With all of the creative designers and clients we work with, innovative
pieces and programs are coming through GLS on a regular basis. The
President’s Choice award was created to recognize the people
and companies who design, create or develop these unique projects.
The winners you see here received the President’s Choice award
because they were extraordinarily creative, innovative or just plain
out-of-the-box thinking.
 Congratulations to Hanley Wood, winner of the President’s Choice award for its FedEx direct-mail campaign, which targeted small-business prospects with numerous customized offers.
High levels of customization and a short, two-month timeline created numerous challenges for this campaign. First, the offers were customized 31 different ways. Additionally, some prospects received a standard direct mail, while others received the direct mail plus a gift. The gift also was customized, as prospects received either a USB jump drive or a retractable travel mouse.
To ensure a successful rollout, Hanley Wood designed a coupon-style booklet to showcase the offers. The 31 booklet versions were inserted into six-panel mailers (also 31 versions), some self-mailing, some in gift boxes. There were also 12 versions of box liners, three of foam inserts, four of labels and three of gift tags.
“This was a substantial project, and Hanley Wood was well organized,” said GLS Account Executive Dick Krismer. “They used a great system of flowcharts and grids to keep everything on track, allowing for the complex kitting and fulfillment to be executed flawlessly.”
