It looks like any ordinary green file folder. You might even mistake
it for one if you found it lying on someone’s desk. After all,
there are doodles of wine glasses, faces and a candelabra on the
front cover. But when you open it up, you find one of the most interesting
and creative annual reports ever printed by GLS.
First, the green file folder isn’t really a file folder at
all. It started as white cover stock. To make it look authentic,
GLS scanned a standard green file folder, then created a tri-tone
to give it that “dappled” green file folder look. The
stickers on the front cover and top tab aren’t stickers, either.
They’re simply the white cover stock, printed to look like
stickers.
But the special effects don’t end there. Inside, the designer
wanted to make the report look like an actual folder stuffed with
papers, letters and other important documents. Again, the ledger
paper inside isn’t really ledger paper. It’s white paper
printed to look like ledger paper.
The same goes for the letters from satisfied Buca customers. Actual
letters and signatures were used, and each piece of stationery was
re-created and printed to include in the report. All of these pieces,
along with the actual report pages, were die cut and saddle stitched
to make the report look like an overstuffed folder.
“GLS has printed Buca’s annual report for three years
now, and although each report has been interesting, we found this
one the most interesting and creative of all,” said Gary Garner,
president, GLS. “All of the scans, die cuts and special ink
formulations made this report both challenging and rewarding for
us to work on here at GLS. It’s definitely a winner in our
eyes.”
