The President’s Choice award was created to recognize the people and companies who design, create or develop these unique projects. The winners you see here received the President’s Choice award because they were extraordinarily creative, innovative or just plain out-of-the-box thinking.

A Blueprint To Succeed with a Tech-Savvy Marketing Tool.

Congratulations to Cognos, Inc., winner of the latest President’s Choice Award for its “Plan-to-Perform Blueprints” collateral kit.

Cognos, a leading enterprise software vendor, wanted to target CFOs and other finance executives who would desire performance-elevating “blueprints,” or best-practices tools, for finance, sales, human resources and other processes.

Kara Hillman, Manager of Customer Programs at Cognos Innovation Center in Minneapolis, explains the biggest challenge of this project. “The five blueprints and countless supporting documents can be quite intimidating and confusing if not designed properly. We knew that if the kit wasn’t laid out clearly from the user’s point of view, they’d never get to the valuable information.” Tom Keekley, co-founder of Minneapolis design studio Olive and Company, came up with the innovative design for this complex kit. Olive and Company designed a sturdy, oversized folder system that housed five mini-CDs and a set of tabbed inserts to support the interactive components. The tech-savvy design features snapshots of executives in action, with bold fonts and a color scheme of steel blue, red and silver. Olive also designed and coded 5 unique interfaces for disks to seamlessly unite all existing electronics program assets.

Although Kara has only been working with GLS Account Executive Mike Koshiol for six months, she was pleased that he was able to meet her tight deadlines. “He did a fantastic job. GLS was given a short timeframe to print, assemble, and ship. They produced a great piece, and shipped them in time for the event.” The resulting piece is a memorable and effective sales tool for Cognos that has brought attention and support to company-wide sales and marketing initiatives. Kara reports that feedback from both customers and Cognos executives has been very positive.
