This Spring, Target served up a double scoop of flavorful fun-in-the-sun
with its summer press kit, which was designed to look like a chocolate
covered ice cream bar, complete with a stick on one end. It was mailed
to print
media in various geographic markets throughout the country.

Using the theme “I Scream for Summer,” Target enticed these
reporters to flip through the 25-page ice cream bar to see photos of
some of the “tantalizing treats” (new products) that the
company would be serving up at Target stores this summer.
A CD with all of the photo images was included on the inside back cover
of the press kit to further encourage reporters to write stories and
run photos of the new products. Cutting through the clutter on reporters’ desks
also wasn’t a problem for this press kit since it arrived in a
silver foil envelope designed to look just like an ice cream bar wrapper.
The address label featured a fanciful drawing of an ice cream truck,
and it was sealed with a colorful “I Scream for Ice Cream” tab.
“This press kit really caught our attention, and I’m sure
it caught the attention of all the reporters who received it, too,” said
Gary Garner, president, GLS. “This is just another example of the
many fun and creative items that Target produces each year, and we’re
delighted to be working with them on these kinds of projects.”
